Alexis Crockett conducted research at Jackson State University through the Research Scholars Program
Alexis Crockett, sophomore at Alcorn State University, was a member of the Mississippi INBRE Research Scholars program this summer. She conducted research in the lab of Dr. Joseph Cameron at Jackson State University. Her research was on the effects of estrogen hormone replacement therapy on the kidneys of ovariectomized rats. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school and become a pediatrician in Mississippi. “The Mississippi INBRE Scholars Program brought me closer to achieving my goals by exposing me to research. The various opportunities to present my research also increased my communication an presentation skills on science related subjects. I also learned various laboratory techniques and content, such as biostatistics, that are needed in many upcoming college courses and also medical school courses,” Crockett says about her summer experience.
