On March 5, 2020, the Mississippi INBRE Telenutrition Center hosted the second seminar of the Community Health Speaker Series. Dr. David R. Buys, from Mississippi State University, delivered a presentation titled “Cooperative Extension and Obesity Prevention: Toward a Policy, Systems, and Environment Approach to Building Healthier Communities.”
The Community Health Speaker Series aims to deliver content on community health and behaviors in relation to disease prevention among Mississippians. Dr. Buys’ work stems from exploring social causes of health and disease. He joined MSU Extension in 2014 and has tackled issues such as obesity and opioid misuse in the state of Mississippi.
Mississippi INBRE was honored to host Dr. Buys and is grateful for his time and efforts in speaking to USM’s campus.
