Dean M. Fraga, PhD received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin (genetics) with postdoctoral training in biochemistry and signal transduction at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Seattle, WA). Dr. Fraga is the Danforth Professor of Biology. He has been funded through HHMI, NSF, ACS, and USDA and has advised over 150 students; 85 students are authors of peer-reviewed abstracts, posters, and presentations at regional, national, and international meetings. As a faculty member at the College, he has hosted several genomics outreach workshops for local High School students and organized in bioinformatics workshops on campus. His current research involves studying the evolution of novel protein functions. His experience in undergraduate mentorship and success in an undergraduate institution is invaluable to Mississippi INBRE.
